Thomas Smetana was born in Salzburg, Austria, 1966. From 1981 – 1989 he worked on archeological sites in Austria and Greece as a restorer.

He travelled extensively through Europe and the US which included a 6 month stay in Los Angeles.

From 1990 -1993 he assisted Gerhard Merzeder, one of the most successful photographers in Austria working at an international level.

In 1994 he began shooting independently having gained his Master’s certificate in Photography. This work was mainly based in Linz, Vienna & Munich.

As well as working solidly in Austria, his assignments have taken him as far afield as South Africa and Australia.

He has won both national and international Awards for his work.

He works mainly in the Advertising and Editorial fields, with diversity being the keyword for his unique style. He shoots for a variety of clients including –>
